Amelia Joy, a theater maker and educator, has been reading cards for 15 years. Since laying down her first Tarot cards while sitting on the steps of her front porch, marveling at the stories they told, she couldn’t imagine life without a pack of cards by her side. Since then, her tastes in divination have expanded to include playing cards and folk-style cartomancy. She has a particular love for the everyday matters of life and uses card reading as a gateway to deepen her connection to the humble and holy mundane. Using her background as a theater educator with a love for exploration and play (and at Sibyl’s suggestion, of course), Amelia wants to open others to the range of possibilities that a humble pack of cards can bring to their everyday lives.
Danielle Maribell, a literature professor, taught at the university level for over 15 years, reading cards whenever life permitted. Her lukewarm relationship with the Paulina Tarot blossomed into a cartomancy love affair when she discovered Lenormand. After her tarot and oracle practice found its way into her college syllabi, Danielle decided to bring this same spirit of exploration to her peers. Her research led her to an understanding of stories as sites of deep empathy and internal excavation, and her approach to the cards engages everyday experience as a space for intention, self-narrative, and myth-making. When asked, Sibyl said that there was no better way to make the transition from academic to woo life than to start a lab(yrinth) with her tarot bestie.
